Not Just a Shimmy
A sparkly, bejeweled dancer shimmies past us, finger cymbals blazing while rhythmic music plays in a Greek restaurant. For many of us, this is our introduction to “Belly Dance,” the term that is used to describe most dances that have their roots in Middle Eastern dance styles and techniques. Belly Dance got its hooks into North American culture in the 1800s and hasn’t let us go since. We can now, right here at Bedouin Beats, study many different kinds of Belly Dance! We offer Belly Dance/Raqs Sharqi (which firmly retains its Middle Eastern roots), and all of the evolutions of Belly Dance that have been springing up since the 1980s which combine Belly Dance with other dance styles.
So, which class and style should you choose? Discovering that is half the fun! Check out the video to see our very own students performing each style, click on our informational pages, and then see which class gets its hooks into you!
